Paris Et Ses Artistes A Toussaint

A Webquest by Linda Letson

You are going to visit Paris on assignment for Journal Français d’Amérique. You are responsible for researching a group consisting of 4 people:

Your visit will occur during the holiday of Toussaint (All Saint’s Day, November 1). Your editor wants you to visit the grave of the artists you are researching in order to observe this French holiday.

You are responsible for learning the importance of their lives and works, where they spent time in Paris, perhaps together, finding their graves, determining their patron saints and the significance of the day, a maxim about their birthdate.

Specific goals:

  1. Given the names of the persons to research for, you will learn about their lives and works and choose a significant work to show and explain.
  2. You will find an image of the person.
  3. You will find an image of their grave.
  4. You will locate the grave in Paris.
  5. You will find directions from your hotel in Paris, the George V on the Champs-Elysees, to the cemetery.
  6. You will send an e-postcard, written in French, from Paris to me.
  7. From the person’s birthday, you will learn his patron saint and Saint's Day.  Then use that day to find a French proverb about that date.
  8. You will write an article for your paper including information about visiting those persons’ graves at Toussaint and the person’s life.
Teachers’ note: Organize your artists by time period to provide variety.
